Arizona Fishing Report 12/15/08

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Our first cold front of the year is finally upon us.  Cold temperatures and rain and snow are in the forcast for the next few days.  We will see what the back end of the front does to the fishing.

Overall, fishing has been great all over the state of Arizona!  Here are the highlights of what we’re seeing:

Lake Pleasant: Still a good shallow water bite for largemouth bass, stripers, and whites.  Shallow diving crankbaits, wake baits, swimbaits, and some topwater are catching a ton of fish at the right times.  Fly fishermen can do real well with threadfin shad imitation streamers.  There are plenty of fish still crashing and boiling bait on the surface, so the fishing is still action packed.

Roosevelt Lake: Fishing has really picked up in the last couple weeks.  There are some fish in the shallows on spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, but the majority of fish are coming deep on dropshots and spoons.  JN’s Semper Fi Roboworm has been the hot ticket.

Canyon Lake:  Still some good fish coming on Huddleston swimbaits.  The new phantom trout pattern has been deadly on the big largemouth now that the trout stockings have begun.

Oak Creek:  Lots of rainbows still showing.  Some browns are mixed in, but starting to slow a bit.  Egg patterns and bead head nymphs taking most of the fish as the fish start to prep for spawn.

White Mountains:  Excellent fishing for rainbows and browns if you can stand the cold.  We have taken some very large fish on streamers the last few weeks.  We predict two more weeks before the roads officially close.
